About Us

Welcome to  Amazing Escapades: Adventures for the mind, bod and belly!

My name is Lysa Allman-Baldwin and I am the Publisher and Editor of!

For over 20 years, I have fed my wanderlust for “everything the world has to offer” by writing passionately about travel, cuisine, historic sites and attractions, cultural events, accommodations, spas, festivals and other travel-related topics for numerous print and online publications. To date, I have visited over 20 countries, almost all of the 50 U.S. states, and countless big cities, small towns and villages in between!

My love and passion for travel is to not only experience the world around me, but also share with others how to broaden their understanding of and appreciation for other people, cultures, cuisine, languages, music, religious traditions, and ways to give back through travel. My parallel loves are my two teenage sons who possess the travel and gastronomy bugs as well, accompanying me on many sojourns around the globe.

More About Lysa

I love those memes floating around social media comprised of several photos contrasting the perceived thoughts around a certain topic—dogs, directors, working mothers, captains, personal trainers, and so forth.

The meme about Travel Writers looks like this:

I have to agree with all of them, as the life of a Travel Writer is very multifaceted and can reflect any of those images, on any given day (and sometimes all in the same day!). But I wouldn’t have it any other way!

So how did I get there?

Well, my passion for travel began as a young girl when my mother took me and my sisters on cultural, historic, gastronomic and other adventures in our own backyards while growing up in New York City, Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

These mother-daughter sojourns were filled with love and her deep-seated desire to teach us how to appreciate the multiple wonders of this world: people, cultures, languages, foods, music and scenery.

Once on my own, my wanderlust for everything the world has to offer continued. Little did I know that my childhood passion would become a full-time career, one that I have cherished  for over 20 years!

It started by writing small travel pieces for a neighborhood newspaper in San Francisco (long before the internet), then became writing features in other newspapers,  magazines, trade publications, travel guides, online publications, and eventually launching my own travel website.

St. Simons Island – The Golden Isles of Georgia

Whether you are new to travel, have done a little here or there, or are a seasoned veteran, will find Amazing Escapades to be a great resource that will inspire you to broaden your horizons and explore all the world has to offer.

Blessings, gratitude and happy travels!
