Opened in March 2015, The Retreat is named after its location, in Altos del Monte de Atenas, “altos del monte” translated as “the top of the mountain.”

The Retreat’s proprietor, Diana Stobo, an internationally renowned health and wellness expert and speaker, culinary artist, raw foods advocate, and award-winning author, and Spa Director, Laura Solera, have created innovative “Farm to Spa” treatments centered around organic and edible body work specially designed with the strong belief that all food is medicine.

This one-of-kind treatment experience which will nurture, relax, detox, enhance and incorporate natural healing, works hand-in-hand with The Retreat’s overall health and wellness philosophy to provide therapeutic therapies for the body from the inside out

The products used in each treatment have a specific healing and beauty purpose, and are handcrafted fresh from the property’s hillside organic garden, bursting with fresh herbs, greens and much of the nightshade family. Moreover, they are deeply rooted in the understanding that 60 to 70% of all body remedies are absorbed immediately through the skin tissue, and the healing qualities are able to penetrate the cells immediately.

The organic, local and fresh ingredients used include Costa Rican coffee, coconut, fresh herbs, chia seeds, goat milk yogurt, dark chocolate, tropical fruit, herbal gold and volcanic clay, and other ingredients. The spa menu also includes new body massage treatments meant to bring the body back into harmony, relieve stress, and release toxins through properly stimulating the lymphatic system.

For example, for the Glow Coconut Scrub, every part of the coconut is harvested. “The glow” begins with a dry brushing to increase circulation and remove dead skin impurities, then gentle circulation of the delicious coconut scrub will eliminate dry, flaky skin, soothe mild eczema, stimulate circulation to reduce cellulite and stretch marks, and reveal smooth, glowing skin.

The Thin Mint – Chocolate Mint Scrub uses the amazing detoxifying benefits of chocolate to refine pores, energize cells, and improve circulation for cellulite reduction.

Our how about a Tropical Fruit Smoothie Facial which layers oats, bananas, a fresh pineapple toner, a papaya and chia enzyme mask, a goat milk yogurt and honey mask, and finally a garden fresh aloe plant moisturizer.

This is just the beginning of the delicious, to say the least, complete mind-body experience awaiting guests at The Retreat at Altos del Monte Costa Rica.
